School Redistricting David ONeil Fayette County PVA

I attended the Lexington Wealth Builders meetup on 2-4-15 to hear Fayette County PVA David O’Neil talk about the school redistricting process.  Here is the quick review:

– Impact to property values is not considered as part of the redistricting process

– The school board issues the goals for the redistricting to achieve and then the panel is charged with delivering those objectives

– The reason for redistricting is the construction of several new schools including; 1 new High School on Winchester Rd, 3 new elementary schools near Polo Club/Georgetown Rd/Richmond Road corridor, and a new middle school on the Richmond Road corridor

– One of the most difficult issues of redistricting is that Dunbar is the most overcrowded high  school and the new high school will be built on the other side of town

– Feb 12th and 16th the school board will hold open planning sessions

– To see the proposed redistricted zones go to http://www.fcps.net/zones
